Palette Knife Abstract Workshops
Supply List
Click here to go to Dick Blick to find my class supply list. Select CA for state and Leslie Saeta Fine Art for school name. Then click on Palette Knife Abstract workshop.
Canvases
You will need two stretched canvases for each day of the workshop. You can bring any size and and I like to use a 1 3/8 - 1 1/2 profile on the canvas. I suggest sizes between 18" x 18" and 36" x 36" (but do not bring larger than 36" x 36"). Bring both square and rectangle sizes and plan on painting one or two diptychs (so bring two canvases of the same size). If you need to ship home your canvases be sure to bring them in boxes that can be used to ship them home. Don't forget tape for shipping.
You can buy your canvases at any art store but I highly suggest you check out Michael's. They have great sales on their Level 3 1 1/2" Gallery Wrapped Canvas. Wait for the 50% off sales and then find a coupon good on sale items.
Paint
We will be using acrylic paint for this class. I love the Utrecht Studio Acrylics but you can use any student grade acrylics. The Liquitex Basics Acrylics (in the tubes) work very well and they are reasonably priced. You should get the 4.0 oz tubes in the following colors: Alizarin Crimson, Aqua or Turquoise Green, Burnt Sienna (or brown), Orange, Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, Green, Off white (3 tubes) and White (3 tubes). If there are any other colors you love to use then bring them too.
Canvas Paper Pads
Please bring two Strathmore Canvas Paper Pads in the 9" x 12" size. There are 10 sheets per pad.
Palette Knives and Brushes
Bring two palette knives with a blade size of 1-1/8" × 3-3/8". At Dick Blick they are a size #33. Also bring some inexpensive brushes (2" and 3") to paint the edges of your canvases. Don't bring foam brushes.
Paper towels, nylon gloves and wet wipes
Bring two rolls of paper towels, two large containers of wet wipes and plastic/nylon gloves to wear on your hands each day.
Plastic for table covering
Bring a 4ml plastic sheet that is large enough to cover an 8" ft x 4 ft table.
5 - 10 Inspiration room photos
Bring five to ten color photos (either from a magazine or printed on a color printer) of any room in a house that you would like to paint a painting for. Color is important!
Additional Items
Trash bag, sketch pencils, erasers, tape, scissors, squirt bottle with water. Small water container - such as a 1 gallon plastic bucket or a low 10x10 inch tupperware-type container.
